For the past several months, I've had to wrestle with a big decision that I didn't want to make. Olivia (our little acrobat) was breech, so she had to come into this world via c-section. Granted, a c-section isn't ideal, but it wasn't as bad as I had imagined it to be. With baby #2 on the way, I have the choice to go with another C-section or VBAC (ye old fashioned way). This decision still weighs heavily on my mind. Once you have a C-section, it sounds like it's risky to go either way. Today I opted for a VBAC, but still agreed to have the C-section if I don't go into labor by a certain day (since being induced is out of the question as it will greatly increase all those risks). Bottom line-- the Lord knows all those factors I can't see. We have weighed what we have been given to weigh, and the rest we have no choice but to leave in His sovereign hands. "Thou God seest me"!

Wow, what a big decision! A girl from our church did the same thing and did well, even though she had a long labor and long pushing time! So, to me, it's up to God and then the doctors and then--you! I'll be praying for God's special grace that day. My day is almost here--yahoo! (not thinking about pain or fear--just trying to meditate on God's love and presence) Thanks for checking out my blog! I hear about you from Terry periodically. Exciting about your new ministry and new little blossoming family... God is so good!
I hear of so many that have had c-sections: Carrie Bennett, Alicia Horn, Jenny Muth, etc. I had a c-section also. Esther was transverse, and they tried to get her to turn, but wouldn't work. In this day and age - they don't use forceps as they did on my sister and I, which is fine with me too. So anyways, I know what's all involved with those decisions. We'll be in the same boat when God gives us another child. Every family has to decide for themselves what God would have them to do. He is so gracious to allow us to bear children no matter how they come into the world!
You know, everyone is different and the circumstances surrounding their c-section is different-- all leading to different reasons why they opt for or out of a second one. It's just my "luck" to be told my whole life I have great child-bearing hips-- only to end up with a c-section :)
Ha! Yes, I have thought the same thing. My grandma had 12 kids. I think the last few just walked out :) I found out I had a fibroid tumor and the babies wouldn't get around it. So, I had to have three c-sections so far. I LOVE them. It is so nice for me because then I know exactly when I have my babies. Plus it helps my parents in being able to drive in time for the delivery (they live in WI). The recover time gets shorter with each one too! Let that be an encouragement to you if you have to go by C-section again :)
If God wants you to deliver VBAC He will have you go into labor by the appointed time. I bet it is a relief to have that settled :)
You know...to this day I remember you teasing yourself about "my childbearing hips” All too funny!!
I was in labor for over 30 hours with Victoria. After 2 hours of hard contractions and pushing the realized that her head was facing down. So instead of looking up at the ceiling when she came out she would be looking at the floor. I was so tired and frustrated because after 30 hours of labor than 2 hours of pushing they put me in line for a c-section...there were 5 others before me! So as I lay there waiting and still contracting I felt a turning sensation and my contractions worsened! (if that is even a word...i just know it really hurt!) Before I knew it, Victoria was on her way out with a little help of a suction thing!
Logan was also facing down...and he came flying right out after only pushing 2 times...Praise God!
I will be praying for you as you prepare for your little man to arrive. How far apart will they be?
Logan and Victoria are about 14 months apart…at the time when I brought him home, I thought I was never going to make it through. Only by God’s grace was a pleasant and upbeat mom! I love it now, and wouldn’t trade it for anything. They are so close and Victoria loves taking care of her little brother!
Monica- I hear you! The C-section was great, and I wouldn't be distressed if I had to have another one. It's good to hear that recovery time gets better-- that was the only downer-- But HELLO Perkaset! Just point to where you are at on the smiley face pain chart and the nurse will fix you up. I was down to Tylenol by the second or third day I was home. Heather-- bless your heart! I would be so grouchy if I went through labor that long AND ended up with a C-Section too! I'm glad little Victoria made her debut before that happened!
I can't say that I know anything about c-sections, but I will certainly be praying for you as the time comes near. I think each doctor/hospital is different in how long they wait before declaring the need for surgery. God will watch over you and protect you and that little one of yours so that all is done to His glory!
I hope you don't mind that I've placed your blog on my list of links.
Add me to the c-section list too! Hey Leah, it's Karen Goldsmith (Bell). Congratulations on a boy and I had no idea you moved to my "neck of the woods." I'll be praying and thinking of you during your vback. I'm a wuss... I'll be having all c-sections! :-) Take care and keep the updates on your growing family coming!
