A First for the Baby Book.....

...Olivia's First Broken Bone!

We spent Thanksgiving in Alabama with my family. Shortly after the feast had been spread, Olivia rolled off the couch. It didn't seem like a big deal, but she wasn't moving around like her normal 2 year-old self. When we got home on Saturday night, she didn't want me to touch her at all. I called her doctor and explained everything to him, and he said that she probably has a hairline fracture somewhere. So, Olivia and I headed down to MUSC Children's Emergency Room. We were greeted by nurses that know the characters on every children's program that exists and showered with stickers and children's books. I was even pleasantly suprised that I fit in a child's wheelchair (Olivia would have nothing to do with sitting in that thing by herself). She has a small fracture on her collar bone, and just needs to keep it still.... as still as a 2 year old can possibly get!

That is so weird. Another friend of ours has a two year old that rolled off of an air matress and broke her collar bone. That was just the other day too. I guess we need to be careful of two year old's fragile collar bones! I hope she feels better soon too. How terrible would that be to have to hold anything still when you're a two year old!

Thanks Heather!

Janelle, that is interesting! The doctor at the emergency room said that the collar bone fracture is the most common with children.. I'm not at all suprised my sweet little wild woman has broken a bone before her 3rd birthday :)

Oh that poor baby. She must be really tough! I am dreading that day. I have three lunatics and I am on borrowed time for the broken something by now

I keep up with you via your mom - and was so sorry to hear that Olivia hurt herself. I will pray for her - and patience for you! Other than that, I trust you had a great Thanksgiving! I miss you!

Poor thing! We know what that's like having a little one slowed down with a broken bone. Praying that it will heal up quickly!

I cannot imagine Kayla keeping still for the healing time. I hope it heals quickly. You are so funny to label this post a first for the baby book. :-)

I also will not be surprised if Kayla breaks a bone before her 3rd birthday -- she's so active and all over the place. Yesterday, she fell down the stairs (not sure how many but from the sounds of the bumps it had to be at least five) at the people's house we were staying at. She had her toothbrush and toothpaste in hand so I'm guessing she was hurrying too much to come ask me to turn on the water so she could brush her teeth. I rushed in not sure what to expect, but she was only scared.

Hang in there, Mama!

Poor Baby!!! :( How is momma holding up?? :) Good thing God makes children's bones so pliable...and healable!! Guess this will be some good training time for...hmmm...control and quiet time!?!?! John broke his arm at 5 years old. This was when he learned to draw because he had to sit in a chair all day long with his arm up; so maybe something good will come of it!? Tell Olivia we will be praying for her and hope she feels aaaaaall better!!!

OH my dear, tell her to hang in there. I know children have problems with simple confinement, and a broken colalr bone is a BIT more than simple:) I hope you're doing well my dear!
